Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) has announced the expansion of its package options for second-generation 650V to 1200V αSiC MOSFETs. This portfolio expansion is aimed at critical applications such as xEV charging, solar inverters, and industrial power supplies. By offering more package options, AOS provides engineers with the flexibility to optimize their systems while streamlining the manufacturing process.
The new surface mount package for the AOBB040V120X2Q is AEC-Q101 qualified and designed to replace traditional through-hole packages, especially in applications like onboard chargers (OBCs). This package simplifies assembly and maximizes power density by using vias and backside PCB heatsinks to improve cooling.
In addition, AOS introduces the GTPAK™ surface mount package, which features topside cooling. This enables higher power dissipation and reduces thermal resistance, ideal for applications like high-efficiency solar inverters. The first product in the GTPAK series is the AOGT020V120X2, a 1200V/20mOhm MOSFET, which offers a direct heat path for better thermal management.
The third package is the AlphaModule™ high-power baseplate-less module family, which integrates multiple discrete devices into a compact half-bridge module. The AOH010V120AM2, with press-fit pins and an integrated thermistor, is designed for residential solar inverters and can be scaled for fast DC charging stations.
“With the continued growth in EVs, energy infrastructure, and renewable energy, we continue to see increased interest in our αSiC MOSFETs,” said David Sheridan, Vice President of SiC products at AOS. “The expansion of our product portfolio to include these new advanced package options gives our customers the design flexibility they need to take advantage of our superior αSiC performance and continue the trend of pushing power systems to higher density and efficiency.”
