Bel Fuse Introduces Compact Liquid-Cooled Battery Charger

The Santa Clara, California-based Bel Fuse Inc, a leading global industry manufacturer of products that power, protect, and connect electronic circuits, has introduced the BCN25-1000 Series—a 25 kW, liquid-cooled battery charger, capable of converting 3-phase AC voltage into DC voltage, for industrial, heavy-duty vehicle, and mining applicatons.

Engineered as a compact solution for medium to heavy-duty vehicles and underground mining applications, the new BCN25-1000 Series battery charger is constructed using the very latest high-quality components. With suitability for industrial trucks, excavators, cranes, and similar equipment operating in environments with 1,000 VAC, the series offers two options: either the 350-8 unit with a DC output range of 240 – 430 V and a maximum current of 60 A; or the 700-8 unit with a DC output range of 480 – 860 V and maximum current of 30 A.

The AC 3-phase input of the BCN25-1000 Series liquid-cooled battery charger spans from 800 to 1100 V, delivering an output power of up to 25 kW, and with the added capability to operate in parallel up to 100 kW.  This design, along with its typical efficiency of 92%, allows it to be used as an off-board charger. By obviating the necessity for transformers, the charger reduces both the weight and cost of the overall vehicle. Additionally, the charger is equipped with over-temperature, output overvoltage, and overcurrent protections, ensuring its continued performance and reliability in harsh environments.

Bel Fuse’s BCN25-1000 series 25 kW, liquid-cooled battery charger meet the requirements of IEC 62368-1. The BCN25-1000 Series also complies with SAE 1455 standards and incorporates a J1939 compliant CAN interface for control and monitoring purposes. Units are also water resistant to IP65 and IP67.
