Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), based in Munich, Germany, has announced the global market launch of its XENSIV™ TLI5590-A6W high-precision stray field linear TMR sensor. This marks a significant advancement in precision sensing technology, and quantities are now available for immediate customer shipment.
By leveraging its extensive experience in magnetic position sensors and linearized tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) technology, Infineon has engineered a solution tailored for both linear and angular incremental position detection applications.
Designed to meet the rigorous demands of industrial and consumer sectors, the TLI5590-A6W is qualified according to the JEDEC standard JESD47K, ensuring reliability and performance across diverse applications. This versatile sensor serves as a compelling alternative to optical encoders and resolvers, offering unparalleled accuracy and efficiency.
At the heart of the TLI5590-A6W lies Infineon’s TMR technology, optimized for high-volume sensor systems. Compared to linear Hall sensors, TMR sensing technology offers better linearity, lower noise, and lower hysteresis. The high signal-to-noise ratio and the lower power enable cost-effective magnetic designs with lower battery consumption.
As a result, the new sensor enables accurate detection with rapidly changing directions. Design of the TLI5590-A6W features two TMR Wheatstone bridges, each responding to the direction and intensity of the external magnetic field. By employing a multipole magnet, these bridges generate differential output signals, namely sine and cosine signals, facilitating precise relative position measurement. These can be further processed for relative position measurement.
Housed in an ultra-compact 6-ball wafer-level package (SG-WFWLB-6-3), the TLI5590-A6W embodies superior integration density, enabling miniaturization and position detection within microsystems. Despite its diminutive size, this sensor boasts exceptional measurement accuracy of better than 10 µm, when paired with an appropriate linear or rotary magnetic encoder. Furthermore, with its extended operating temperature range of up to +125°C, the TLI5590-A6W sensor offers versatility across a spectrum of environments, making it ideal for both industrial and consumer applications. In addition, its high temperature stability makes it the perfect choice for use in harsh environments.
Magnetic position sensors, particularly when employed for industrial linear and angular incremental position detection, find widespread application across various sectors. In industrial automation, they are integral to robotics, ensuring precise positioning of components and machinery. In automotive manufacturing, these sensors enable accurate control of conveyor belts and assembly line processes. Additionally, they play a crucial role in machinery alignment, guiding the movement of linear actuators and ensuring optimal positioning of tools in CNC machining. Furthermore, in renewable energy systems, magnetic position sensors facilitate the precise tracking of solar panels and wind turbine blades, maximizing energy harvesting efficiency. Overall, the versatility and reliability of magnetic position sensors make them indispensable in enhancing productivity and performance across diverse industrial applications.
In summary, the Infineon XENSIV™ TLI5590-A6W magnetic position sensor represents a paradigm shift in precision detection technology. With its unrivaled performance, compact form factor, and robust reliability, this sensor sets a new standard for accuracy and efficiency in position sensing applications.
