IQD Frequency Products, part of the Würth Elektronik eiSos Group, has introduced the IQOV-116 series, a new range of miniature oven-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs).
Originally announced during electronica 2024, the IQOV-116 series delivers high stability and low phase noise in a compact 7.5 x 5.5 mm surface-mount package, making it the smallest SMD OCXO in the IQD portfolio.
Compact Design with Reliable Performance
The IQOV-116 series combines the capabilities of an OCXO with a footprint similar to standard 7 x 5 mm clock oscillators, offering:
- Frequency stability: ±20 ppb across a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 95°C.
- Low phase noise: Typical performance of -150 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset.
- Power efficiency: Operates at 230 mA steady state with a 3.3 V supply voltage.
- HCMOS output: Ensures compatibility with a variety of systems.
The series includes standard frequencies of 10.0 MHz, 19.2 MHz, and 20.0 MHz, with additional frequencies available upon request.
Applications for Precision Timing
The IQOV-116 is designed for applications requiring accurate frequency control in small form factors, including:
- Wireless communication systems.
- Small cells and communication infrastructure.
- Frequency reference and measurement systems.
Its compact size and extended operating temperature range make it suitable for environments where space constraints and high-performance stability are critical.
Simplified Integration
To facilitate efficient manufacturing, the IQOV-116 series is available on tape and reel, allowing for compatibility with standard pick-and-place assembly equipment. This ensures smooth integration into automated assembly processes.
Advantages of OCXOs
OCXOs (Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillators) achieve precise frequency control by maintaining the quartz crystal at a stable temperature. This design minimizes frequency drift caused by temperature fluctuations, making OCXOs suitable for applications requiring consistent and reliable performance.
