Founded in 2014 out of the University of Cambridge’s Computer Laboratory, lowRISC supports collaborative projects that aim to make open-source hardware practical, verifiable, and production-ready. The company provides long-term engineering stewardship, ecosystem coordination, and scalable infrastructure for major security-driven open hardware efforts.
lowRISC’s portfolio includes OpenTitan, the first open-source silicon root of trust project, and Sunburst, a framework designed to support secure SoC development with reusable and audit-friendly IP. Its Silicon Commons® model facilitates collaborative IP sharing among industry, academia, and the public sector to promote transparency and long-term sustainability in semiconductor design.
