NXP Intros EdgeLock A30 for Secure Industrial and IoT Authentication

Industrial Internet of Things Internet of Things

NXP Semiconductors (NXP), experts in secure connectivity solutions, has introduced the EdgeLock A30 secure authenticator, a Common Criteria EAL6+ certified solution designed to simplify secure authentication across industrial, smart home, energy management, healthcare, and gaming applications.

The compact device provides enhanced security, regulatory compliance, and product traceability, while integrating seamlessly with standard MCUs and MPUs.

Noted Alasdair Ross, Senior Director, NFC IoT Security, NXP, “Secure authentication helps to ensure brand protection, consumer safety, and product traceability, fostering trust and shielding devices from physical damage. Smaller than a grain of rice, the EdgeLock A30 is designed to fit into even the smallest devices. It supports multiple authentication use cases, making it easier for developers to support a variety of devices and accessories with a single solution, including device-to-device, cloud-to-device, counterfeit protection, and storage or protection of device identity.”

Addressing Emerging Security and Compliance Needs

The EdgeLock A30 supports evolving security requirements, including the European Union’s Batteries Regulation 2023/1542, which mandates Digital Product Passports (DPP) by 2027. This regulation requires secure digital records of product composition, origin, and lifecycle, making scalable authentication solutions increasingly critical for compliance.

Designed for high-volume scalability, the EdgeLock A30 enables manufacturers to meet these new requirements while ensuring device integrity and protection. Secure authentication enhances consumer safety, prevents counterfeiting, and ensures brand protection by safeguarding devices against unauthorized access and physical damage.

Key Features and Integration Capabilities

The EdgeLock A30 is engineered for flexibility, offering compatibility with standard microcontrollers and microprocessors, including NXP’s MCX portfolio of MCUs and i.MX portfolio of MPUs. Key features include:

  • Secure credential storage: Up to 16kB of memory to support multiple authentication use cases.
  • Comprehensive cryptographic support: Common Criteria EAL6+ AVA_VAN.5 certification with symmetric and asymmetric cryptography.
  • Simplified key management: Supports public key infrastructure (PKI) for streamlined key provisioning and deployment.
  • Compact design: Smaller than a grain of rice, the authenticator fits into even the smallest devices.
  • EdgeLock 2GO support: Enables efficient certificate delivery and generation for high-volume applications.

With support for authentication use cases including device-to-device, cloud-to-device, counterfeit protection, and identity storage, the EdgeLock A30 provides a scalable security solution for connected devices.
