Synopsys, Inc. and SiMa.ai have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating the development of silicon and software for next-generation automotive edge AI applications. This partnership integrates Synopsys’ electronic design automation (EDA) tools, automotive-grade IP, and hardware-assisted verification solutions with SiMa.ai’s machine learning accelerator (MLA) IP and comprehensive machine learning software stack.
The collaboration focuses on addressing the growing complexity of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI), key areas of innovation in software-defined vehicles (SDVs). These systems demand robust AI architectures to enable real-time, multi-modal in-car experiences while meeting performance and power-efficiency requirements.
Ravi Subramanian, head of Synopsys Product Management and Markets Group, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “Our collaboration with SiMa.ai will provide automotive companies a significant step forward in modernizing their hardware/software co-design processes to meet demand for advanced, in-car experiences that are increasingly costly and complex to deliver. Our leadership in architecture exploration, IP, and hardware-assisted verification, combined with SiMa.ai’s innovative performance and power-optimized ML capabilities, will enable customers to differentiate while continuing to meet stringent cost considerations and industry standards.”
Enabling Next-Generation Automotive Solutions
The joint solution is designed to address several key challenges in automotive edge AI development:
- Optimized Co-Design: Supports early architecture exploration for system-on-chip (SoC) design, balancing power, performance, and software application requirements.
- Accelerated Development: Provides an end-to-end development workflow, including virtual prototyping and emulation, to streamline hardware-software integration and speed time to market.
- Customizable Solutions: Offers silicon-proven building blocks for ML SoCs and chiplets, tailored to meet diverse workload demands across ADAS and IVI systems.
- Scalability and Longevity: Enables continuous upgrades for automotive AI applications through flexible hardware and over-the-air updates.
Krishna Rangasayee, Founder and CEO of SiMa.ai, emphasized the potential of the collaboration: “Collaborating closely with Synopsys allows us to provide automotive manufacturers with complete, optimized solutions that accelerate their development cycles. The SiMa.ai MLSoC platform was designed for best possible performance at lowest power consumption across a diverse set of applications—that was the missing piece in the puzzle to make future cars so much smarter and safer than what we have today. When combined with Synopsys’ industry-leading IP and software, we will deliver a powerful foundation for innovation across auto OEMs in autonomous driving and in-vehicle experiences.”
Applications and Industry Impact
As automakers increasingly adopt AI-powered solutions, the collaboration between Synopsys and SiMa.ai provides tools to enhance power efficiency, performance, and reliability. The solution is expected to help automakers create differentiated, cost-effective systems while supporting complex workloads required for modern AI-enabled features.
The integrated solution is positioned to drive innovation in autonomous driving, ADAS, and IVI systems, helping automakers meet evolving customer demands and accelerate production timelines.
