TI Launches Programmable Logic Devices for Streamlined and Reduced System Costs

Passive Components

The Dallas, Texas-based, Texas Instruments (TI) has expanded its industry-leading logic portfolio with the launch of new programmable logic devices (PLDs) that are designed to help engineers streamline logic designs for a broad range of applications. These PLDs integrate up to 40 combinational and sequential logic and analog functions into a single device, enabling up to a 94% reduction in board size and significantly lowering system costs compared to traditional discrete logic solutions.

The new PLD portfolio offers substantial space savings in comparison to competing devices. It features the industry’s smallest known leaded package, measuring just 2.1mm x 1.6mm, while also including automotive-grade options that offer form factors 63% smaller than their nearest known competitors.

With TI’s intuitive InterConnect Studio tool, engineers can design, simulate, and configure devices within minutes without any need for coding. This drag-and-drop graphical user interface (GUI) simplifies the logic design process and includes click-to-program functionality along with direct ordering options, all of which help accelerate time to market.

“Engineers are increasingly considering programmable logic devices as a way to reduce design complexity and board space, simplify supply chain management, and accelerate their time to market,” said Tsedeniya Abraham, vice president and general manager of Interface at TI. “But existing programmable logic devices are more complex than many applications require, involve programming expertise, or they come in limited packaging options. Our new programmable logic portfolio builds on TI’s 60 years of experience in logic design and offers small form factors in industry-standard packaging as small as 2.56mm2, low power consumption, AEC Q-100 qualification and a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C for applications including automotive, industrial and personal electronics.”

TI’s new PLDs offer low power consumption, with quiescent current of less than 1µA, and AEC-Q100 qualification, supporting temperatures from -40°C to 125°C. The portfolio is also available in quad flat no-lead (QFN) packaging, which enables automated optical inspection to ensure safety and long-term reliability.

TI’s new PLDs are now available for preproduction at TI.com, along with evaluation modules and development tools to facilitate design efforts. For additional product specifications and pricing, visit TI.com/tpld.
