Würth Elektronik has announced the global market introduction of its WL-ICLED series, a cutting-edge series of RGB LEDs with integrated controllers (ICs).
These components, functioning as individual pixels, incorporate red, green, and blue LEDs alongside a programmable controller IC. Offering four distinct designs, these intelligent LEDs afford precise control over pixel color and brightness levels ranging from 0 to 100 percent.
With the capability to generate over 16 million different color and brightness combinations, these RGB LEDs seamlessly integrate with popular open-source libraries such as FastLED. Their streamlined design, requiring fewer auxiliary components like series resistors, not only accelerates deployment but also results in more space-efficient display solutions compared to setups utilizing discrete LEDs.
The versatility of these components extends across various applications, including signal control systems, full-color matrix displays, audio and gaming systems, indoor lighting, and e-mobility charging station displays. Currently available designs include the 2020 Chip LED compact, 3210 Chip LED Side View, 2121 PLCC6 with bypass, and 5050 PLCC4.
In terms of protection against moisture, Würth Elektronik’s intelligent LEDs boast an MSL3 moisture sensitivity level, enhancing resilience during assembly compared to prevalent MSL5a or MSL6 standards. Certain models conform to IPx7 protection standards, enabling short-term submersion without damage. Further enhancing performance, Chip LED models feature a gold coating, while PLCC models sport a silver coating, optimizing solderability. Available in 8-bit and 12-bit variants, these intelligent LEDs offer heightened flexibility in PWM resolution.
To ensure standardized qualification, all models in the product lineup come with photobiological test reports compliant with EN 62471:2008 and IEC 62471:2006 standards, which are particularly pertinent for applications involving toys. While not specifically tailored for the automotive sector, rigorous testing and qualifications are conducted according to AEC Q102-003 standards, ensuring customers receive objectively comparable specifications.
These LEDs with integrated controllers are readily available for purchase from stock without any minimum order quantity restrictions. Moreover, developers can request complimentary samples to evaluate their suitability for specific projects.
